Metamorphosis = transformation stands for the transitory process through various development stages of plants and animals. In geology it means the conversion of minerals.

For the ancient greek the term described mythical transformations, e.g. from Gods to natural beings. This inspired Ovid and other classical authors to create works with the title „Metamorphosis“.

Further to the generic concept of all artists transforming materials and ideas, the idea of metamorphosis suggests itself to characterize the work of Brigitte Volz. By converting material from its former context into something totally different she discloses deep relations – often surprising, sometimes puzzling and irritating,
